MR. RANDY LEE has taught full-time since 1982 and currently teaches middle school bands, jazz band, and grades 5 & 7 general music in Hermantown, MN (since 1987). He earned his Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education with a minor in Jazz Studies from the U of MN-Duluth (UMD) and his Master of Science degree in Education-Instruction (MSE-I) from the Univ. of Wisconsin-Superior (UWS). He has served as adjunct staff at UMD.

Mr. Lee’s 8th Grade Band was selected to play for the American School Band Directors’ Association (ASBDA) 50th Anniversary Convention in Duluth in 2002. Hermantown Bands were twice selected to perform at the MN Music Educators Association (MMEA) annual convention. The Hermantown Music Program was selected as an “Exemplary Music Program” in 1994 by MMEA. Mr. Lee was awarded the Distinguished Young Band Director of the Year Award in Minnesota in 1991 by the state chapter of ASBDA. He has conducted junior and senior high honor band events, presented clinic sessions at the MN Music Educators Convention and ASBDA natioanl conventions, served as the MN All State Band saxophone coach, and performed as guest classical saxophone soloist with the Twin Ports Wind Ensemble and the Itasca Symphony Orchestra. He has also performed with the Lake Superior Chamber Orchestra, Duluth-Superior Symphony Orchestra, Lake Superior Saxophone Quartet, and Twin Ports Wind Ensemble. Mr. Lee was selected for the QTN (Quality Teacher Network) for MN Arts-NE Region and was recently the Hermantown “Wal-Mart Teacher of the Month (Dec. ’08)”.

Mr. Lee is Past President of the American School Band Directors’ Association (ASBDA) and hosted their national convention in Brookfield/Milwaukee, WI in June ’08. He has served in other national and state office positions for ASBDA.

In the area of jazz, Mr. Lee is very active as a saxophone clinician and as a busy free-lance musician for various jazz gigs, dances, and receptions involving everything from Dixieland duos to big bands. Mr. Lee is founder, artistic director, and woodwind soloist of the Big Time Jazz Orchestra.

He is also a member of the MN Band Directors’ Association (MBDA) and MENC (Music Educators National Conference)

    I went to North Texas in the late 60’s and there was a sax phenom with the same name (made the 1 o’clock lab band under Leon Breedan his freshman year). That wouldn’t be you by any chance?

      I’m afraid that’s not me. I’ve talked to several people over the years with that same thought. I saw “the other Randy’s” name on a Severinson album from the 70’s too. Take care
