July 12-29. Thurs-Sundays I play in the pit orchestra for the Duluth Playhouse production of “The Music Man” at the Norshor Theater.
7/20 Friday. Volunteering at Reader Fest at Bayfront. I’ll be helping from 3-5 pm (not performing). We’re also trying to spread the word of our big Aug. 18 event – Picninc and Music at the Oldenburg House for NoteWotrhy kids and Oldenburg Arts and Culutural Community.
7/20 Friday. My Dixie Trio (St. Louis River Rats with none other than Hallsten and Mobley) plays from 6:30-7:30 pm for the American Cancer Society Walk at the College of St. Scholastica.

8/9 Thursday. Our Big Time Jazz Orchestra at the Duluth Public Library. 6:15 pm. Summer big band fun! Free! These are our Summer 2018 “Groovy Samba” concerts (8/18 as well). Parking may be a challenge. Plan for it. Thanks! Did I mention it’s free!?

8/10 Friday. I’ve had the good fortune to be asked, for the fourth time, to play and put the 10 piece horn section together for The Temptations performance at Big Top Chautauqua. Come join us!

8/18 Saturday. Our Big Time Jazz Orchestra plays in a wonderful setting. We’re at 4 pm but check this out! Same program as above.

JAZZ FAMILY PICNIC with NoteWorthy Kids and the Oldenburg Arts and Cultural Center   Saturday, Aug. 18, 2018. $10 admission, $20 per family.  The Oldenburg House, Carlton, MN       1 pm-9 pm. 

Come to this enchanting location – National Register of Historic Places, bordering Jay Cooke State Park and the Willard Munger State Trail, the National Kayak and Canoe Center, and Thompson Reservoir.

A day to hang out with music and a picnic.

Much of the profits of the day will help NoteWorthy Kids  in its mission to provide music instruction for children of low-income families; and the Oldenburg Cultural Center



-professionals will perform throughout the day, featuring the Big Time Jazz Orchestra at 4 pm, made up of the finest big band jazz players in the greater region of the Northland, and the “house band” at 7 pm, the wonderful “Cookin’ at the O” group with top professional players from the Twin Cities and beyond.

8/21 Tuesday. My son, Robert, fine musician, is in town and we’re going to play at Yellow Bike Coffee on Miller Trunk Hwy. 7-9 pm. Please come and join us in this cool place!

8/24 Friday. Plans to have  We B Faux Sho’ play at the Dragon Boat Races. Reggae tunes from the UB40 band. Details coming.

9/15 Saturday. I get to play along with Rick Bruner for a portion of “Duluth Does Led Zeppelin” at the Sacred Heart Music Center. Cool.

9/29 Friday. My dance band plays for the MN Ballet at the Kitchi Gammi Club. Come support the Ballet in a unique and historic place.

10/17 Saturday. The Big Time Jazz Orchestra plays for the Kako Foundation. More info coming!
10/18-10/21 Thursday thru Sunday. My Dixieland Trio plays and sings for the NorthShore Scenic Railroad’s Fall Pumpkin Patch Fest. We play 11:30-3 each day. Fun event in a remarkable museum.
10/23 Tuesday. Big Time swings away for the UMD Bernstein/Krenzen Jazz Scholarship Benefit Concert. 7:30 pm. MPAC. Please join us!
10/28 Saturday. Our MN Chapter of the American School Band Directors’ Association hosts a “Small Ensemble Day” (is this our 11th?!), for middle school band students, at St. Anthony School in St. Anthony, MN. Come and check out the concert at 3 pm if you’re in the area.

11/3 Saturday. This is another event that we host-the MN Chapter of the Amer Sch Band Directors’ Assoc. Thanks to the U of M, and their jazz director Dean Sorenson, we’ll run a Grades 9/10 Honor Jazz Band. Catch our fine student honor band at 3:30 in the recital hall of the U of M music building. I’ll co-conduct, coach the saxes, and play. Come on over.
11/8 and 11/10. Thurs & Saturday. I am so honored, flattered, and pleased to have been asked to sing with the Twin Ports Choral Project. Yes, I do sing!

12/8  Saturday. A collaboration with the Laura Velvet Band and the Big Time Jazz Orchestra for our Vets! Christmas tunes from great regional musicians! This is going to be quite an event! 6-10 pm at the Harborside Ballroom of the DECC. Food and song, who can beat that!?  Proceeds go to MACV
1/29 Tuesday. The wonderful performer and teacher, Greg Moore, performs a faculty recital and has asked a few of us to play on his arrangement of “Tableaux de Provence” for saxophone quartet
February 2019 – event in the works – a Tribute to Frankie Cox – long time Superior musician.
